I didn't have time to make it all the way to the primary target in southern Minnesota, and I was skeptical of storm mode and chaser convergence. CAMs indicated a much more local play with an isolated supercell going up in the Illinois warm sector. It was a long shot conditional gamble, but I decided to roll the dice on the whims of the models and drove up to Peoria to see what would happen.

I cleared the west side of Peoria and by early evening nothing was happening, so I decided to kill some time with a hike through Jubilee State Park.

Virga Look-a-like Funnel

With only a few minutes before sunset, it was obvious storms weren't going to fire. I started heading back to Springfield noting some high based showers with virga. One of the virga bands had a great look-a-like funnel shape to it.

Conclusion

Capping or lack of lift along with some overzealous convective models lured me out for a local cap bust. The southern Minnesota target produced some nice tornadoes.
